How Context Helped Share the Story Behind the Sagrada Familia’s Final Tower Celebration

For more than 140 years, the Sagrada Familia Cathedral in Barcelona has captured the imagination of people around the world. Antoni Gaudí’s extraordinary basilica has become more than a building. It is a symbol of creativity, craftsmanship and the power of a vision carried across generations.

In 2026, that vision reached a historic milestone with the completion and celebration of the basilica’s final central tower. The Tower of Jesus Christ, the tallest of the Sagrada Familia’s 18 towers, brought the landmark to its full planned height of 172.5 metres and marked one of the most significant moments in the building’s long history, as featured in The Guardian

For Context, the opportunity was to help ensure this remarkable story reached the audiences it deserved.

Working alongside Barcelona-based lead agency and Eurocom partner Both. People & Comms, Context supported the communications campaign around this once-in-a-generation moment, combining media relations, content creation and launch support to bring the story to life.

Finding the human story behind the landmark

The challenge was never simply to announce the completion of a tower. The real story was the journey behind it. The Sagrada Familia represents generations of architects, craftspeople, engineers and supporters who have contributed to bringing Gaudí’s vision closer to reality.

Context helped shape the narrative around the milestone, identifying the stories and messages that would resonate beyond architecture and heritage audiences. By focusing on the human elements behind the achievement, the campaign helped make a historic construction milestone accessible and engaging for wider audiences.

Bringing a global moment to the media

With worldwide interest expected around the anniversary celebrations, Context supported a targeted media relations programme designed to generate awareness and engagement.

The team worked to identify relevant media opportunities, develop supporting content and tailor messaging for different audiences, ensuring the story was not just about a building but about a moment of cultural significance.

The milestone attracted attention from UK and international media, including coverage highlighting the completion of the central tower and the major June celebration, which saw the tower formally inaugurated and blessed as part of commemorations marking the centenary of Gaudí’s death.

Over the project period, we secured 167 pieces of coverage including features in The Times, The Guardian, ITV, and the BBC. Dezeen also ran a month-long series dedicated to Gaudi’s work, following an interview with its lead architect.

A story that will be remembered

The completion of the Sagrada Familia’s final tower was a rare moment where history, architecture, faith and human achievement came together.

For Context, the campaign was an opportunity to help share a story that had been over a century in the making. By combining strategic communications with thoughtful storytelling, Context helped ensure that this landmark moment reached audiences around the world. It was also a great example of the value of working with a network like Eurocom, bringing together independent agencies with deep local expertise and established media relationships across key markets, while giving clients the benefit of a connected, consistent approach on a global scale.
